Didn't want to derail that any further. I make reference to the BOED sometimes when dealing with alignment because it has several pages that expound on what it means to be a good character. That doesn't mean it's the only guideline, or that everything in there applies to every good character. It's just one of the guidelines. A lot of the things in there are for those that want to play an exalted character. One that is a beacon of good, an example to aspire to. In most cases I think the things in there should apply mostly to paladins, then goodly clerics and favored souls. Remember, the things that are described as goodly aren't a checklist a PC has to do in order to remain good. As long as he applies those principles to his life, and stays away from doing things on the other end of the spectrum, then he remains good.
I don't think it should be the only thing that DMs look at but it does offer a lot of examples past the two paragraphs that is in the alignment description in the PHB. I also think that it follows along quite will with the alignment guidelines on this forum under setting, as that set of guidelines used the BOED if I am not mistaken, along with the Book of Vile Darkness for evil.
