In fact, since I have been here, the Zhents have yet to do much more than destroy a bar , cave in the dwarf's front door, and get totally beaten by farmers led by rebels... ", she yawns long, covering her mouth with a delicate hand.
  "The difference now , is , they have a real leader. As to how much difference that will make has yet to be seen or proven. Still, I have seen how all the Zhents bow to his presence and jump at every word. Even if they are sn army of rats , they are led by a Lion.
    We, however , are an army of all creatures , great and small.
They fight out of fear and loyalty to the whims of their mortal tyrant... We fight for many reasons ... Many...  I will give them one thing - unity with singular purpose.

you cant manipulate a man like that, he is teh chosen of his god for a very good reason, adn he leads the zhentarim for an equally good reason.

he will be no fool and neither willhe be easily lead....his commanders however.

divide and conquer or so they say.

The Zhents bein' forced out by Drannor an' a rag tag bunch o' farmers is a stickin' point fer Zhents, folks gave em a bloody nose an' they don't like defiance. Manipulate a guy like tha'... ya'd need ta give em a bigger threat then Drannor... summat ta threaten summat more valuable, like their home town o' summat... a bit beyond our abilities."

He shrugs

"We're on tha backfoot... they ha' tha defensibles an' comin' power... aye takin' out tha chain atween tha top zhent an' tha rabble migh' werk... if ya can get past some o' tha mos' well trained an' paranoid zhents and skymages out there. Thems that be up in Krag be likely mos'ly suvivors o' tha liberation, means they be powerful, smart, cunnin', lucky o' all o' em. They be allive fer some reason...They have coin, supported loggysticks an' trained folks... we ha' to put a finer point on it...rabble an' what we can forage about.

"This is gonna be fair worrisome... havin' ta change tactics an' so... traps, ambushes, poisons... will at mos' werk wunce...they may be pillocks... but they ain't dumb, they will adapt. They got in wi' politics afore... likely they'll be comin' wi' swords an' stabbin's next. Misty Falls... is jus' tha start... then it'll be tha Academy, Shadowdale, Twoforts, an' likely Tha Ironhold... We gotta find ways o' distractin' an' disorientatin' em... in a war o' attrition... we will likely lose.."

He shakes his head and sighs

"Tis likely werds ya don't wanna hear but... tis gonna be a difficult choice in tha times acomin', We need ta find ways o' keepin' em locked down an' occupied"

PROPOSITIONS FOR DEALING WITH THE ISSUE OF ZHENTARIM ADVANCE

If we assume that Zhentarim forces and their allies (which are, in earnest, engaged in war with peoples of Shadowdale and Myth Dranor) will not be inclined to negotiate anything with their opposition, we must also assume that they will not be merciful toward denizens of said areas in case of their victory. Therefore, we must assume that any and all kinds of tactics which target their efficiency and numbers should be used to maximize damage against their force BEFORE it may be used in direct offensive. This should include following measures:

1. Extensive anti-personnel trapping of the surrounding areas - trap-pits and trap ditches, specifically constructed against humanoids, should be dug and prepared in any area which is on the possible route of Zhentarim advance toward Shadowdale, Myth Dranor, Misty Falls or Twin Forts. Woodland areas could also be covered in traps, but with less frequency. Use of poisons should be considered. Proposed amount of work force: at least three teams of workers, each with a survival and/or trap laying specialist. ((ranger or rogue; skills are Survival, Craft Trap, Set Trap, Craft Weapon))

2. Conventional traps - The mechanical traps with physical, poisonous or elemental effects should also be deployed in same manner and frequency as trap-pits. Proposed amount of work force: two trap-laying teams, each with at least one trap specialist ((rogue; Craft Trap, Set Trap))

3. Defense against Skymage aerial attacks - As previously mentioned, arbalest teams in fortified towers or fortified field points could prove deadly against Skymage mounts. In Misty Falls and other places with castle walls, arbalests should be put into corner towers and should be warded against elemental damage types. In Shadowdale, arbalests could be put into prepared pits protected by embankments and also warded in same manner. Proposed workforce: two teams for Shadowdale and Misty Falls each, each team with at least one engineering specialist. ((bard or any other class that has high Lore and/or Craft Weapon))

4. Raids against enemy - The most dangerous proposition of all, but also easiest to prepare and execute, is the interception of Zhentarim force en-route to Castle Krag, and their subsequent harassment - from afar, with the use of ranged units, or in direct combat, but only against forward scouting forces which could further make difficult their fast progress toward Dales area. This could also lower the morale of their troops. Proposed force: to be discussed with prospective planners of such attacks but no less than two teams of six, with at least half those numbers being ranged units. ((lots of people who want to kill Zhents dead will do the trick))


((this is all actual proposition for mini-events, prior to the Big Thing; just like Shadowdale is being rebuilt bit by bit, war effort can be done one trap, one flak-tower and one dead Zhent at a time))

*a letter is delivered via animal courier to elektra* why not ask the city of myth drannor for aide in protecting the area even if its only a little any help would be welcomed and be sure to point out that it is a key location close to both shadowdale and crossroads being only just across the river.

in my eyes they should not say no nor will they likely say yes right away this is after all a location that should not be allowed to fall into enemy hands. be sure to point out the advantages for it to be kept free of zhent control aswell as the negatives for it to fall into their hands as well. things like a foot hold just a short distance away from elven lands as well as the crossroads more with in range of normal and some magical attacks staging points for the zhent to infiltrate the elven lands. point out this would be a good spot to keep clear of zhents as it provides quick in an out access for allied troops it also can provide a staging point for allies to muster troops it can also provide some info on troop movements in the area. think of all that type stuff and use it to adress the council in asking for help to defend it.

even if they take some time to decide let them know an attack is imminent and tho you have some ideas for defence and even just abandoning it if you do not get enough help to defend should get their attention as by abandoning it or destroying nature would get their attention likely in a bad way. as it destroys nature and gives a perfect spot to the zhents for further attacking elven lands and allies. while it does at this time give them potential new allies in the form of the guild.

just a thought but worth a try at least to save ones home i would think.

p.s. you might also want to build or look into building a wall around the area.

((A few OOC notes here.

Any preparations for the battle need to be RPed out. Expenses/craft checks/time for making siege weapons like Ballista will be needed as well. It would be a DC 15 Weaponsmithing Check. Normal PnP rules will apply. Ballista are huge heavy crossbows, costing 3 times as much as a normal crossbow. Using the crafting rules, you need to meet the price of that weapon in Silver Pieces. A huge heavy crossbow costs 150 gold which equals 1500 silver. The amount of work that can be done in a week is calculated by taking the DC and multiplying it by the craft check made. For example: A player rolls a 50 on their craft check. The formulate would look like this: 50 X 15 = 750. So with a 50 craft check, you could make one Ballista every two weeks. This isn't including any enchantments. Send me screenies of your work.

During this battle, the preparations from the Zhentarim's side will have an effect as well. Another thing that should be noted is that NPCs aren't planks. They do have morale, and would much rather retreat, rather than fight a battle where they are most likely to die. Also consider the staff of the Misty Falls. While heroes could stand up to the magics and weapons of the Zhentarim, may normal folk will not. An escape route would also be handy, as there will be consequences for those who do not escape should the battle be lost.

I will be gone from the 13th - 19th this month, after that, I will be planning to do the event after that, but before the end of the month. There will be a few events before I leave that may change a few things. Stay tuned! ))

I am drawn away from much game time lately by a number of real
Life problems, ranging from funerals and dealing with the loss of loved ones , work demands, out of town travel, as well as other commitments.
I would love to lead the resistance in defending Misty Falls , yet realistically I am unclear how much I can be a part of it for some time.
Please , to any who would stand in the place where Elektra would lead ... Please do it.
For purposes of RP , we might consider Elektra stricken with an illness , or something for now.

SDome time ago, maybe more than a year now..we Rped for and asked to pay for siege engines such as Balista and atapults at Misty Falls..it was before the outer walls were redone and put in game..we were told no that no one at MF was qualified to operate siege engines..then we asked to RP several PC's and NPC's travelong to the localTemple of Tempus, and were told there was no one qualified to train them. now there is a deadline to get things prepared and done, when we asked to do them and were denied at least months and probably more than a year ago. No siege engines allowed was our answer.

((+1. I remember that clearly. I played Asteria as captain back then and still have screenshots from it. Sadly, I've given up on this plot line. I was very interested in it and enjoyed the RP behind it. It's just been difficult trying to get DM support on the MF side since Stardust resigned. I wish you all luck with it but I likely will not be a part of it any longer for OOC reasons. I think a few feel the same way.))
