Ivaris was found at the gates of Shadowdale carrying Zazieri.  Both he and the hin were brought to the temple.  Healers worked for hours to restore the two.  Zii seems to be bad shape but does not suffer life threatening wounds.  Ivaris is in critical condition, some of the healers seem to doubt if he'll survive the wounds inflicted upon him.

Spotting Ivaris and Zii at the gates, he takes the nearly-dead hin from Ivaris' arms and carries her into the temple, with Moric close behind to make sure Ivaris doesn't collapse.

After making sure both the wounded are getting treated and the healers understand the gravity of the situation, Ardylan slides a chair over near the door of the back room where Ivaris and Zii are recovering. He stays inside the entire night, foregoing reverie to make sure that nothing comes inside the room that isn't welcome or supposed to be there.

He keeps an eye on the healers, strongly suggesting to a pair of them that they leave for the night and fetch replacements when they start to look too exhausted to be of any use. Ardylan also asks one of the field guardians in the hallway to find Deputy Arran and inform him that he's needed at the Chauntean temple.

Arran came to the House of Plenty as soon as he was summoned, offering powerful magical healing, and understanding of Dangerous magics to aid the two as needed.

Hearing of Ivaris and Zazeri's fate, Danika makes her way quickly from her patrols during the day to the House of Plenty. If anyone were to see her, they may actually be a bit intimidated by her stance and general aura of guardianship. ((Base 23 Intimidate))

Once there, she would attempt to step inside the room (unless stopped).

Zazieri's smaller frame is usually obscured from view by a healer or anyone taking care of her. Those that position properly could see a grim scene:

Moric had been sticking to the sides of the room and trying his hardest to not be in the way. He did his best impression of a coat-rack throughout the night.

He wasn't certain why he had stayed. It was a small room and the healers had everything as much control as the situation could be in. He couldn't help, and the chances of anything sneaking into the temple to steal these two away were minimal. Yet, here he remained, dozing occasionally against the wall.

It felt important to be here, it felt purposeful. He towered next to the hin's hospital bed like a gargoyle, warding away evil with his stoicism.

Jonah arrived late on the scene -- the Chaunteans were already well under way in their work.  After some initial assessment, and a bit of frantic resource gathering, he settles back into his own work.

The damage done to his two friends shocks him; Jonah has seen many injuries from farmhands to war veterans, but this horror is beyond the pale, and he isn't even sure where to begin. After a feeble application of some minor healing magics to help stabilize the pair, Jonah quickly realizes that even he will only get in the way at this point.

So he pulls a chair up to the little iron woodstove against the wall, and sets all manner of of potions, ointments, tinctures, and teas on the hot plate to simmer.  His is no longer the immediate help that is needed -- Jonah will be most useful during their long, and likely hard recovery.  He sits back in his chair, and closes his eyes, marking the cooking times for his bottles and pots with silent chants and prayers.

Thus far Ardylan has let inside everyone who has come to visit or help Ivaris and Zii, turning no honest aid or consolation away. He looks particularly relieved once Arran and Jonah arrive to lend their respective talents. Danika's presence makes him slightly uneasy for reasons he wouldn't explain even if asked, but he doesn't refuse her or make a scene.

After playing "Door Guardian" for the pair for two straight days, skipping reverie and eating only what little food the healers bring him in between trips, Ardylan starts to look rather worn and haggard. Eventually the healers likely shoo him away, telling him to go rest just as he did to them. He promises to stay in Shadowdale and return once rested.

At some point during the quieter hours of their recovery, someone saw fit to place a peculiar dreamcatcher over Zazieri's bed, with her familiar lantern set beside. Further, a single amethyst rests in her palm, her fingers wrapped it around it weakly.

The sun rises and Danika finishes a night patrol, making her way to the House of Plenty. She doesn't rest, knowing full well that she could be needed at any moment. For a while, she stands Vigilant within the room to make sure no unwanted intruders come inside.

After some time, however, the little halfling seems to stir. It is unknown what was said between the two, but anyone that comes into the room would notice Zii's dreamcatcher carefully hanging from one side of the bedpost, and Zii's lantern hanging from the other. In Zii's hand was an amethyst and a cloth with wet corners lay at rest beside the woman.

Danika spends the whole day there, eventually seeing Sordoc come to check in. Words are exchanged and the day soon becomes dusk. Danika then makes her way back to her post for Night Watch, looking relieved to know that Zii is alright. She leaves and finally removes the smile from her face, a look of concern on her face. She was worried about Ivaris, and continued to worry about the safety of both of the injured. Whomever did this would be dealt justice for their actions, but right now the main concern was the two's safety and well-being.

A young, dapper man sporting a green ascot and a wide brimmed, plumed hat wanders into the temple the next morning, once the sun has already properly raised. After asking some questions to one of the attendants he makes off to visit the injured. He has brought a couple bouquets of fragrant flowers, possibly purchased from the very Chaunteans.

Isidro takes his hat off and tries to make small, friendly chat with the injured if they are conscious, and leaves his flowers as a small "get well soon" token. He appears friendly and optimistic, trying to cheer up Zii and Ivaris and informing them of his small success in mercantile efforts in Sembia... After visiting the infirm, he discreetly asks those friends that are in vigil over the two injured whom or what caused this, and if any efforts are being made to bring the culprit down. Because if so, he'd like to aid in any way possible.

Ivaris recovers to the point of being alert and awake.  Though he is loopy from the medications given to him for pain relief, he still seems very grateful to all those who come to visit.  He has much difficulty speaking still as his jaw has to be kept from moving as much as possible.  Mostly he communicates through a notepad, writing out responses if anyone should speak with him.  The healers still limit the number of people who can see him at once and how long they can stay.  It is insisted he still has plenty of rest to recover.

Healers are astonished to discover that a set of puncture wounds appeared on the chest of Ivaris.  They treated them easy enough but how they got there is beyond them.  The wounds look as though they burned around the edges of the puncture marks.  Perhaps someone with knowledge of the arcane might be able to answer the question of this phenomenon.

Jonah's head lulls forward, and he starts awake by the wood stove, quietly cursing himself at allowing himself to fall asleep. He spots the new additions to Zii's bedside, and wonders how long he had been sleeping. He seems surprised at first that Ivaris is awake already, and stands to attend his friend.

"Don't try to speak yet; you'll only make it worse." He offers Ivaris a drink of ice-cold water from a reed-straw. At the same time, he spots the new wounds on his chest, looking puzzled. Thinking to ask Ivaris about them, he decides better, and it occurs to him that the wounds may not have been physical in the first place, though he has no idea how they may have gotten there. ((Spellcraft 9))

Jonah notes Ivaris' groggy state, and adjusts the pain medication to a reasonable compromise; Brother Ivaris is no stranger to pain, and it will do everyone all the more good if he has his wits about him...

Jonah would be able to tell the wounds were supernatural in origin but not much else.

Arran enters the room and tries to inspect the wounds as well, in doing he notices markings upon Ivaris's chest.  He casts some healing magic upon the burns to get a better look.  Once he does the sigil flares to life in a hue of red and purple.  Infernal energies arc from the paladins chest, the scorch his flesh and peel up the walls around his bed.  Arran attempts to raise a ward but is unable to do so in time.  He is caught by a blast and thrown across the room.  After a moment of recovery he makes his way back over.  He is aghast by what he sees, he knows whom the sigil belongs to.

Jonah raises his arms in an attempt to ward off the blast, but is thrown against the wall as well. Once he regains his wits, he checks that no additional damage was done from it, and re-lights the lamps.

"Turn over enough stones and the serpent is revealed, it would seem..."

Reaching into his bag, he produces a vial of Holy Water. The potent contents cast a dim golden glow about the room. It doesn't take a wizard to see that something truly vile and dark is responsible for all of this. Jonah thumbs the small glass bottle, idly twirling it with rather uncanny acrobatics around and between his fingers as he deeply ponders the gravity of the situation. His urge to heal is in terrible conflict with his philosophy to do no harm, and that battle plays out across his scarred face.

Jonah looks to his friends for guidance.

Zazieri remains unmoving and silent through Isidro's efforts of cheering her up, as well as the blast that occurs mere a bed away.

Moric wasn't always there in the room. He did go outside, do errands, and have the occasional work that brought him out of town, but he was there for a large portion of his time. Primarily during the night, and ever looming tower or stone and shadow in the hin's corner. He hadn't spoken a word to the healers, and while he wasn't unwelcome it gave a certain tension. No one knew much about him other than he had an affinity for standing still. He thought of it as giving him purpose, but it ended up looking more creepy than helpful. A strange, useless stone-monster, unnecessarily standing in corners, but to Moric this was something needing to be done.

Except, he was beginning to grow bored. It was a challenging thought that he even could reach boredom, as he was just doing what he always did only indoors and closer to a bed, but there were only so many things he could think of in a night. He knew exactly how many tiles were in the room, the number of bricks against the far wall, and how many gallons of water the bath in the next room could hold. He was fairly certain he did the math right on Zii's blankets thread-count, and after moving to how many candles could occupy the width of the door-frame he was starting to run low on things to keep himself occupied.

The other hin helped. Zii certainly couldn't be roused from her slumber but that didn't mean Moric didn't enjoy the show. He always found hin to be strange creatures, but strange wasn't always bad. And once Ivaris woke Moric could occupy his time watching the healers fuss over him.

The catch being Ivaris couldn't talk very much...and Moric couldn't read. It gave him a sobering realization, staring at that useless notebook and scribbled lines. What if this is how things remained? While not completely severed from them, communication was lacking. It would be a lot of trouble to simply hold a conversation. It was definitely something to think about. Something he would have to deal with should these two never recover. What would Moric do if his friends broke? Would he have to find new ones? What happened to broken hins and humans? If they were so fragile, why are they eager to jump into such danger? How did they live like this?

Moric was always in awe on how fragile these creatures were.

"Is there any food in here?" Zazieri would ask quietly, her voice soft and carrying a lyrical lilt to it, rather clear and easy to understand despite her condition.

The healers would likely report that she has awoken and is in stable condition, recovering well.

There is no answer, but instead the noise of wood creaking as weight is shifted and footfalls away from the bed. The door to the room creaked open, then clicked shut.

Then there is silence and the peacefulness of the temple. Twenty minutes go by, before there is another rhythmic lumbering that grows louder and closer to the door. The door squeaks, the dirt on the wooden floor grinds as something turns and clicks the doorlatch shut. Cloth moves, and something is set down next to the bed.

The scent of a stew starts to permeate the air.

Jonah watches Zii's gargoyle companion trundle off, suspecting good things from him as always. He smiles faintly as Moric returns with a meal. He understood Moric to be a quiet sort, and that was fine by him -- he'd met many stoic people in his travels. The tiny mountain stood out to him though, and not because of his elemental heritage, but my the open honesty of his actions.

He waits for Zii to get her bearings, and finish as much of her meal as she's able before he says anything. The dry, raspy baritone of his voice cracks as he first speaks; "Hello, Zii. I'm glad you're awake."

He looks between silent Ivaris, and blind Zazieri, and the ironic tragedy strikes him for the first time.

"Ivaris is here, and recovering well, but he's not yet able to speak." He quickly adds; "I expect a full recovery in time, but the process will be slow. In the meantime, I would be happy to read aloud for you anything he writes, if it should suit you both."

Danika would still have been making her post there during the day, unless she was called to another area for duty. Seeing Moric attend to Zii's request, she smiles for a brief moment. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together for these two. She only hoped that they all would be able to figure out what had happened and stop it from happening again.

Upon Moric's return, she would give him a nod in thanks for his help. She had never met this man. He seemed a strong sort and the fact he, like the others, was watching for troubles caused a respect in her for him. She didn't speak, not wanting to interrupt the group and their discussion. Instead, she continued her Watch.

Eating is a pitiful experience for Ivaris.  Unable to use his jaw he has to tilt his head back and pour the soup in.  He misses on occasion as soup dribbles down his cheeks into his beard.  Nevertheless he is thankful to Moric and the others for their efforts for both himself and Zii.

He writes to Jonah and gives him thanks for all his efforts in his recovery.  He is proud to share in faith with such a wonderful man.  He even goes so far to give the man a hug.  A manly hug. . .

He is honored to have Danika standing guard over him.  The mere presence of the woman gives comfort to the man and fills him hope.  He writes to her a note of thanks for her duty.  He tells her that she gives the greatest honor to the name of a knight.  He would gladly serve beside her anytime.

Ivaris seems to be recovering quite well.  Zii works with her regenerative abilities to help him recover his speech by mending his broken jaw.  In fact Ivaris sneaks out of the temple for awhile.  Ivaris is notorious for doing such things, doctors and healers are often furious with him for his stubborn disregard for their directions.  He meets Milo and has a brief discussion with him.  At the end of it Milo too is shaking his head at the stubborn, unrelenting paladin.  It seems his spirit is anything but broken, despite the state he was in.

Jonah seems very pleased with the progress Ivaris and Zazieri have been showing. While he continues to ask that they do not exceed their limits, it is plain to see that he trusts them both to know those limits for themselves.

He sets some time aside with Ivaris to speak more about the sigil on his chest. Without Arren around, it has fallen largely to the three of them to figure out the real nature of this effect. At a time where few other people will be disturbed, and in a place where any arcane mishaps won't hurt any bystanders, Jonah discusses the use of Holy Water on the sigil to try and disrupt its energy.

"I can't be completely certain without travelling all the way to Myth Drannor for more exhaustive research, but I suspect this will throw the sigil out of sorts, if only temporarily. From what I know of sigils, if they are modified or disturbed in some way, they lose their power. If we can disrupt this magic long enough to heal at least a part of the scarring, I hope to diminish the hold it has over you..."

With Ivaris' consent, Jonah breaks the seal on the vial. With a bundle of sacred herbs bound in red silk thread, he dips the simple Aspergillum into the softly glowing holy water, and slashes at the sigil in benediction.
