A strange thing begins to happen to those that are injured within town and still being cared for. Three people seem violently ill, all three appearing to be having the same symptoms, though at varying conditions. One's skin seems to have reached an almost completely liquid-like state and...melted off. He screams in agony, kept far away from others as people scramble to try to figure out what to do. The others' skin seems to begin to look off, but they aren't quite at the state he is.

The fate of the first person is sealed as his cries of agony are stopped, no longer to be heard by anyone. A few caretakers leave the isolated tent he was in and shake their heads, looking rather shaken. They wash their hands and place on new aprons before entering a second tent where two women's cries are heard.

Some time goes by before the caretakers exit again and look pale-striken. They seem to mumble with each other a bit before agreeing to try to find a divine means of healing for the two unfortunate souls inside the tent. Those paying close attention could hear the caretakers say something about the skin beginning to melt off of the two within the tent as well.

An elderly woman with a long grey braid requests to enter the tent after overhearing the caretaker.
She claims to know a thing or two about magical disease and remedies.

If allowed in she will take several samples from both victims skins and test their reaction by infusing them with various kinds her own magic.

- simple positive energy healing
- restoration
- neutralize poison
- cure disease
- regeneration

She also takes a few extra-samples outside to pass them on to others - both to confirm anything she might find and to tryout what she forgot or isn't capable of.

Having asked around about multiple magical plagues in the past Arran dawned a medical mask and began inspecting the infected, though not getting in the ways of those attempting treatment.

Gwenneth would offer a sample to Arran to learn what he can from it.

While they are researching, a second person finally succumbs to the sickness and their skin melts off entirely. She cries in agony at the pain she feels, begging one of them to end her life. Though she is very much in pain and very weak, she tries to get out of bed and look for her own means to do it herself.

Of the samples Gwenneth takes, she would find that the spell Cure Disease seems to help, causing the sample to stop it's liquid state. It still, however, would still have damage done to it.

*Gwenneth shares what she learned with the caretakers and those researching along with her, but abit away from the victims*

I believe this is a case of the "Melting Fury" .. it is a variant of what happens to a necromancer that undergoes the transformation towards lichdom - first skin, then flesh liquidifies and falls off. It is a slow and very cruel death.

But this here is clearly not willing or intentional transformation. Melting Fury -can- be contracted by handling the flesh of undead - perhaps these people were handling the corpses or fought with their bare hands.

The process, I fear is not reversible. It can be stopped with the cure-disease-spell, but what damage has been done will stay.

*With a glance to the woman who tries to end her life*
In her state..i fear the merciful thing to do is grant her wish.

*with that Gwenneth steps up towards the woman and summons a roaring orb of electricity in her palm, holding it close enough to her to reach. A look in her eyes, and a slow nod communicate silently - touching the orb will be instant and final*

Having arrived to assist in researching what's happening to the victims, Jerrek would hear what Gwenneth said about the disease.

"And what do you think are the...chances of the undead weaponizing this...Melting Fury? Sending in a...walking corpse with the...sole purpose of spreading the disease?"

"I think we should be careful with this, the proper treatment and care must be provided...We can't just euthanize patients...at least not unless we are sure, and then we need to do it in a responsible manner." He looked at the woman trying to kill her self. "We should allow her peace, and try to contain the situation as best we can."

He thought. "We need to put notices about, early warning signs. It has to be stopped before it gets..." He looked to the frantic woman again. "To an incurable state."

Since no one outright stops the woman from reaching out, she touches the orb and a flash of light is seen within the tent. Anyone outside the tent would likely note it. The poor woman's fate is indeed instant and her body crumbles to the ground in a heap. Her skin seems to smoke a bit due to the electricity, the smell of charred, cooking flesh rising into the air.

After weeks of abscence azzelas enters town from the east and notices the lightning. He heads for the tent and eyes the ongoings.
After reaching his head into the tent he sniffs the air. "Burned flesh?"

As the last of the smoke settles Lady Corvain turns from the bed and back to the researchers.

She made her choice and died in dignity. If I violated any laws with that, I don't care.
We must not find a solution on the parchment and let people suffer next to us while we are at it.

The grey lady seems rather stoic about it all.

Such a disease might be used as a weapon yes, but the low number of infected suggest it is an unplanned sideeffect, rather than orchestrated. Still - finding out what the early sympthoms are is vital to do as Arran says. We cannot preemtively treat everyone on the battlefield - we need to identify what these here did that got them infected

She gestures towards the remaining - still living victims and to the charred body.

Having conversed with Gwenneth by the campfire in town, Jerrek has taken a sample of infected material for study. His intention, he told her, is to study it in depth, isolating the cause of the disease and develope a vaccine of sorts. How long this will take, and if it is even possible, remains to be seen.

Beltaram would be passing through town for supplies when he stops by the tents.

The arboreal elf enters one quietly and sits down to watch the healers and volunteers work. As another patient begins to succumb and lose their skin, Beltaram would approach a healer.

"Hello there." He speaks in a soft and slow manner. "Would it be alright if I tried a combination of spells? I'm curious to see if this would work to reverse the loss of skin and flesh."

If given permission, he would begin with Cure Disease. If that worked as he was told, he would then cast Regeneration followed by Rejuvenation Cocoon.

((Eliseth I'm watching your actions in the thread you have working on that. Keep at it and we'll see what happens.))

Assuming no one stops Beltaram, his casting of Cure Disease seems to work on the remaining victim. The combination of Regeneration and Rejuvenation Cocoon seems to mend what's demolished of the person's skin, but not without just a bit of scarring. It seems once the disease sets in enough, it becomes impossible to completely fix the harm done to the flesh due to the vile nature of sickness it is.

Word begins to spread that a couple more have developed the beginning symptoms of the disease. They are in a tent next to this one.

He used his ability to cure disease to at least half the progression of anyone that he heard might begin to have the disease. While he was sad that the woman was dead he at least knew she was out of mortal agony, disappointed in himself, he worked harder to find a cure. Lending Jerrek his assistance.

Seeing the results of his trial, he would offer the spells to anyone accepting of them. He would explain the extent of the spells' effectiveness.

Merum works hard at helping the newly sick, he offers them herbs and tea that he says will help ease their pain. He doesn't know what to give them to help the disease but at least tries to ease their pain and make them more comfortable.

Ardylan has kept a significant distance away from anyone who has shown signs of this sickness, having already expressed his concerns to Arran and Jerrek that they are putting themselves at risk of catching this terrible malady by being around those suffering from it while researching a cure.

Recently, Ardylan has begun to make brief stops at the tents that house the sick, primarily to ask Arran and Jerrek if they need anything mundane - water, food, bedsheets, that sort of thing. He still seems leery of getting close to the sick and stays outside of where they are housed.

Should anyone ask what else he is willing to do to aid the sick, Ardylan would reply with a serious expression:

"I have a blade. If all else fails, I can put the sick out of their misery. Let's hope that's the last step though."

There had only been two left that were infected. If anyone cast over these two Cure Disease, they would be healed. Those with the casting of regeneration and the cocoon would be aided as well, nothing but a few scars remaining.

There seem to be no more cases of Melting Fury that happen to pop up.

With nothing more to do, the elf exits the tent to gather the rest of his supplies and heads back towards the woods.

Jerrek would continue his studies and research even despite no new cases popping up. After all, just because the disease is gone for now doesn't mean it is gone for good.
