PostSubject: Missing Caravans   Tue May 27, 2014 1:49 pm

In the past few weeks, more than a few caravans have not arrived in Shadowdale. All have been found abandoned or destroyed, and all have been completely looted of their valuables. It would seem that they have faced threats on every road, powerful enough to defeat the guards. Though nothing public has been announced yet, business is hurt, and the public is growing wary of traveling the roads. Merchants feel unsafe to leave the confines of the city.

The forest dwelling Hawkley goes on the occasional stroll towards the Caravan Routes. Using twig n' bush for camouflage he always stays hidden, never venturing on the trails themselves, but close enough to see the tracks. He hunts for trails, and footsteps.

Soren would have an expressed interest in this and has started staying around Shadowdale far more often than he has the last few weeks. With an overwhelming enthusiasm he would be offering to personally escort merchants and peddlers along the road, or through unmarked trails.

Imesah asks to accompany Soren on his outings. If he consents she travels with him, if not she does the same as him, but with different groups of travellers. As she travels the roads, she is always on the lookout for signs of bandits, specifically the mysterious bandit group that she has dealt with in the past.

Asteria ventures along the traveled merchant routes, keeping her longbow close at hand. Determination creases her brow after she hears about the attacks from her kin that travel the same caravan routes. She asks the merchants and other folk what they have seen. After a while, she heads back into town and asks around for details about these mysterious bandits. If asked, she gladly escorts them in and out of town, as well as along the roads.

Soren would be more than thrilled at this.  Saying something along the lines of "Well of course you can come along! Always room for some company while traveling and besides it gives us another body too should things go all wrong."  Then with a lighthearted grin he would make a remark.  "Guess it gives us a nice chance to know each other better too"

After speaking with several merchants about town and hearing their concerns, The Enchantress Shahnaz would make mention that such things stand in the way of profit and free enterprise.

She would make a number of trips, stepping into the Ethereal Plane and traversing along several of the more popular merchants routes. Never intervening or revealing herself during these trips, she would simply simply observe and make notes about anything she saw, then return to town.

The Enchantress Shahnaz slowly makes her way around the various merchants in town, sharing some information with them.

Upon hearing news of lower caravan numbers entering Shadwdale, Wester shuts off his regular routes to the Two Forts and Freehaven.  Instead he sets up his arms dealing within Shadowdale and waits for news on the roads to clears up.  The silver lining in all of this, however, is that with less competition from other arms merchants Wester enjoys higher profit margins.

Syvin would speak with the shopkeepers about the missing caravans when he (rarely) visits Shadowdale, trying to figure out who or what might be behind the the attacks.

Azzelas who usually buys cigars and tea from these caravans would slowly run out of supplies and asks a beaten up bandit about the caravans.

More troubling news arrives. It seems like a small Cormyrean Caravan Camp to the South of Shadowdale was attacked and destroyed by what are whispered to be Cyricists. A few Cormyrean soldiers can be seen moving through Shadowdale to the Northride, where a small outpost of theres is located, across from the Hound's Stronghold.

The southern area near the camp is patrolled more heavily by Corymreans, who are not so easily frightened by such attacks. Most of them are incredibly well equipped and warded against attack.

Traveling through the North Ride for a rest at the fortress, Milo would inquire about the guards' presence. Learning about a possible bandit affiliation with Cyricists, Milo offers his help to guard against any attacks.

When news of the missing caravans, merchants and materials reaches the elf like ears of the teifling Alasha'Ur, she quickly lays her hands on her best enchanted weapons.... and proceeds to sharpen them by the pool in front of the House of Redemption. She works at this until the blades easily slice through hardwood of the bench. She grins and sheathes them, gazing a moment at the waterfall.
Other than that, she does and says nothing at all.
