*After the argument with "Glamerie", Taeron was seen leaving town.

After a few moments and a short talk at the outskirts of town, Taeron walked into the town once again - calling on all the guards, townsfolk and adventurers he could find.

He walked openly, leaving his weapon sheathed and speaking with a loud voice.*

"People of Shadowdale!

I turned my back on this town once, only to end up fighting for it for two long years. I will not make the same mistake again.

This town has not bled to fall under the rule of a tyrant once again. Many of you have seen what the Mayor has done today. I am afraid that she is controlled by something foul and I'll be damned before I let another tyrant take over this town. I have returned to face her, or whatever controls her. You have my word that I will try to preserve Glamerie's life and if you ask for it, you'll have my word that after Shadowdale is free again, I will not take any position of power. I am not here to replace one tyrant with another.

After it's done, I will return to patrolling the roads and helping those less fortunate - doing what I always did.

*Taeron's voice goes slightly softer as he says these things*

You remember me from the purple plague, when I healed your children and worked on the cure with master Lanius. We found it and gave it to you.
You might also remember the orcish siege, when a handful of rebels faced a massive orcish army, when the Zhents pulled back and refused to protect you. We fought and we won.
Even when Shadovar came, we stood strong and fought for you.
When the Titan demanded tribute, we took him down.
During the drow rabid disease, the Aurilite troubles, the raids of the malar's pack.
During harsh winters and blazing summers.
When the drow kidnapped your children or when Zhents tortured your friends.

Rebels were always there, and I was one of them. We sweat and bled for you, because we believed you deserve it.

Now I ask you to let me do it one more time. I made a mistake when I let her walk away. I do not plan to repeat it. Something controls her and I plan to set her free. I pray that it's not a simple lust for power...

Your friends from the militia know me perhaps better than most. I shared their meals, I slept in the same mud they did, I drank the same water. And I practiced with them until my shoulders burned and my legs were heavy.

They know me... And I pray to Uthgar that they will trust me today. Just as I pray you all will do the same.

There was an ancient evil found in the Twisted Tower. A weird evil presence. We thought we sealed it off - and we put the tower off limits for everyone for that reason. However - that's where Glamerie is right now. You all know that as the harvestmistress, she resides in the temple. She always did. The temple or the fields. But now, she locked herself in the tower.

I plan to lay siege to the tower. I plan to break down the gates and head in. And I will either clear this evil, or destroy the entire tower.

So, brave people of Shadowdale!

I do not ask you to fight this battle. I only ask you to let me fight it for you.

blue would pull taeron to the side.. and speak to him calmly..

taeron you are aware there is a device inside that was made by either elminster or one just as powerful yes? if so you must be aware it is a defencive device that shields from magic attack and can be switched to shield from physical attack it can also be set to do both at the same time..

how far this shield extends if its just the tower or the whole town I do not know.. the only thing missing to operate it was a key that I may have been able to forge if I was not treated the way I was and left..

this power it held was great so if you lay siege do so carefully is all I ask I never found the original key and never came back to forge a new one..

do what you want with that information but do so carefully..

and if he could asks what the hell was going on to force him to do this..

A number of guards stand in his way. Jacob steps forward;

"Sir, you have been banned from town my her Lordship. I ask you please leave before we are forced to attempt to make you leave. She is the choosen Leader of the people and we are Honor bound to follow that until the people say otherwise. So please Sir don't make us do that. You are an inspiration to many of us, don't make us force you out."

He waits for a responce.

Ahri would come out of the inn, hearing someone come in and mention it or somewhat, and look between the guards and Taeron and stand between them. "What goes on here? Why did the Lady Glamerie ban Taeron from town? Surely this is some misunderstanding? The Lady Mayor would never do such a thing out of hand. Can we not settle this peacefully?"

A frown would be painted across her pert mouth.

Keillyn Kross stands among the crowd listening to the man, and the surrounding conversations. She says nothing, her eyes locked on Taeron as he shouts his decree.

"There are not many facts presented." She says more to herself. "That should be changed."

Keillyn stepped aside to let others go in front of her as the situation grows more chaotic. Falling away from the center and into the folds of the crowd.

It all began as always, with Jay saluting folks and Bitchanna as he walked by. Taeron heard that and somehow decided he got enough with his remarks and demanded for Jay to be escorted out the town. After the prideful dragonborn's obvious refusal, things escalated quickly and Jay, incapable of believing what was going on, asked for the mayor to rule that out.

The two men, while arguing, made so much noise they did eventually get the mayor to be among them, only to be astonished by her outburst of unexpected rage. Everyone gathered in front of the Twisted Tower but no one had luck to discover any clue.

Forced by the events, Jay has proposed his camp, next to the river down the road in Shadowdale West, to be used as a sort of headquarter for those who will be watching the Tower night and day since now on, as his land is blessed and safely warded.

(( can you revert the area and get the new one online back again? thanks tonight we had the one still ruled by the zhents. thanks))

Any who interfere with the guards would be arrested for it. They will follow the orders they were given unless countermanded by someone of higher authority. As he was banned by the Mayor they will either wait for Taeron to leave on his own or attempt to force him to.leave.

After the outburst and the banning of Taeron by Glameire, Deputy Mayors Kendra and Bryanna were very worried. They did not believe this to be normal for her. After some information provided by Taeron about an ancient evil in the tower that takes over the minds of those who frequent it, the two deputy mayors conversed deeply about the situation at hand.

They decide that, due to the emergency and the fact that the safety of the Mayor is at hand, it is best to try to lift the ban of Taeron and explain to the guards the dire circumstances. Kendra begins going around speaking to the guards. She lets them know of what has transpired, the beliefs of what may be happening to Glameire, and that the safety of the town may be in jeopardy should the ancient evil really be used in the tower. She hopes that they will listen to her after she tells them the severity of the situation and then will in turn listen to their Commander again.

Jacob response is simple; "Sorry Ma'am the Lord placed the ban. Only she can lift it. I respect what you are saying but she is our chosen ruler." He nods to her and waits for Taeron to decide.

Bryanna's first action is to try to settle the situation with Taeron

"Taeron, I know you mean well but you need to leave before this turns messy. If you press this issue, you're going to split the militia's loyalties. If you press this you may find yourself having to kill these men you trained. Please, do the right thing and step out of the gates. Don't confuse honor with pride on this. The situation needs fixed, Glamerie needs our help.. the town needs you... but this is not the way. This is not going to be resolved so quickly I fear. Give Kendra and I some time before you completely seal this situation by behaving rashly."

Bryanna works in tandem with Kendra, going to the militia officers and town Elders, explaining to them what occurred.

"She was very unlike herself she was swearing, screaming, demanding not to be bothered. Her very words were that Taeron was to kneel before her, apologize, and swear fealty. She's an elected leader, you don't swear fealty to a Mayor. She mentioned explorations and hurried back into the Twisted Tower, refusing any reason. A great evil can be sensed within the Tower, an evil she's in there with.. "exploring". Deputy Mayor Kendra and I are worried for her safety and her sanity. The woman was not herself by those who have known her.

I think what we need to do is lift the ban on Taeron and reinstate him immediately, then do what we can to help the Mayor. There's something very wrong here, something extremely amiss. We're all going to have to be together on this for the good of the town."

Cruven walks over and takes a spot next to the guards, not really saying much, just puffing on his cigar. But it's clear he stands at Jacob's side.

Vincent walks up to Taerons speech, perking a brow at all that is said. Then watches the commotion though he mumbles to himself with a soft sigh followed.

"If Glamerie truly is what Taeron states.. It'd explain her constant absence..Though I should have felt something off with her..."

He would then see Kendra's actions to Jacob fail, sighing once again as he shakes his head at the sudden turn of events with the town.

Loora Spencer watches the whole of the proceedings with amusement, first the militia man wants to throw the Black Hound out of town for a petty insult, the next he is completely insubordinate to the mayor and complains about tyrants. Pot calling the laundered linens black or what. One does not mess with a High Priestess AND Mayor in their own town, no wonder she was pissed. The Selunite Hound, really? Insulting the deputy mayor in front of all and sundry, sheesh talk about being one marble away from poisoning wells and random murders.

Standing outside the tower with the others Loora admits scant knowledge of the Mayor, having only seen her working the northern fields. She eventually, reluctantly, concedes that the others would know aberrant or normal behavior better than she would, and offers her help entering the tower.

Ahri would reluctantly step aside, but she would continue to work with Kendra and Bryanna to see this matter resolved.

She would also put in a note with the Mage's Guild.

Karovir would have seen the commotion and stepped up. He would even walk up and stand next to Taeron if he could (depending what the guards do). And he would speak up to the guards and their leader:

"Taeron speaks the truth. Do you remember when Glamerie was captured by the Zhentarim? She was tortured in the worst ways possible. This must have harmed her mind. I noticed it because I knew Glamerie before and after that. I was the one who went up to Castle Krag's gates to negotiate her freedom in exchange for another prisoner and I was the one who healed her wounds and carried her from the crossroads to the Lathander temple. Already there I saw that she was different. From there on she has been acting in no way a wise priestess would.

I know Taeron for a long time, too and he wouldn't react like this without reason. I ask you to at least listen to what he has to say so we all can get a picture of what is going on. As one of the greatest liberators of the town you owe him that much!"

*Taeron looks around slowly - making sure people can see him, and making sure he is heard. He then turns back to Jacob.*

I understand that you're honor-bound. What I don't understand is that you see her as a rightful ruler even though she holds no pendant and she was not chose by all of you, but just by a handful of you right after the battle. I recall no election - and I am sure you don't recall any as well. As there was none. Even before she changed, Glamerie never did as much for this town as most rebels did. She didn't tend to the crops nearly as much as Julia. She didn't work on your freedom nearly as much as Karovir... She knew damn well why she's chasing them out - one by one.

But if you decide to stand by the "ruler-chosen-by-few" I will respect your decision.

I understand that you see her as a rightful ruler, and I am sad that your trust towards a woman who has done so little and who you know so little is greater than your trust towards me.

I want no bloodshed. You know I will not raise my axe against you or any of your brothers in arms.

However, I too am honor bound. I will do this with you, or without you. The difference is - how will things unfold afterwards. If the town stands against me, I will deal with Glamerie to the best of my abilities and leave - not returning even if this town is in dire peril in the future. I will not return, when a new disease comes to kill your children, nor will I return if the Zhentarim march down the mountains in full force. I will not be back even when a demigod tries to dominate you again or when golems fall from the sky and attempt to take over the land.

So chose wisely. All of you.

*with the last few words, Taeron looks around one last time, to see the reactions of the people gathered around him*

Having received a note from Ahri, Shahnaz would finish her studies and commence observing the goings on around town with a True Seeing spell in effect.

She would say little to anyone, but observe all that she could.

blue still unsure of what is going on stands to taerons side and sighs at the situation before speaking up..

you all need to take a deep breath search with in yourselves for what the right way to proceed is.. yes glamerie is the mayor elected by a few in time when chaos was assured..

taeron was one of the ones to save this town from the zhent and further stayed to train many of you with out this you would likely not be alive today..

I admit I know little of glamerie before she was tortured and after I still know little other than the fact she has no business leading a town not so soon after being tortured and this has left her in a weakened state..

I have never had a reason to doubt taeron and after seeing much of the effects of her "governing" the town which was next to none have all the more reason to not believe her to be best to lead this city..

while I may have no say in this town I do listen to reason.. and that is telling me let taeron watch the tower with some of the men he trained *looks at taeron* I do mean just watch it.. then investigate the situation thoroughly if possible find storm silverhand since she has passed the pendant test before and have her take over running the city..

then take the appropriate steps based on the investigation and proceed to try to help glamerie by saving her from what ever is effecting her then cleanse the evil from this tower before develing deeper into studying it..

hell for that matter find elminster and ask him..

it is time for you all to step up and do for your selves as best you can.. you must be willing to accept help when it is offered as well..

turning against one another and dividing yourselves will only weaken this town and cripple it.. allowing for your enemies as well as many enemies over run the town again..

I had started you all a mage guild here so they can help you all you need but ask and you will receive their help you may ask Julia as well and many other friends to the townsfolk that are slowly being ran out..

I will be honest here and flatly tell you I am ashamed at this point of how this has been handled and truly finding myself not even wanting to be here even to conduct business.. I have done nothing but help your people and your town from the early days of the infestion and spread of zhent until you your selves years later ran me out on the word of such evil.. yet still I have only helped you all..

My first wife was one of you and she was killed here infront of many of you by a damned drow yet no one did anything to help or stop her needless death you all walked around with your heads buried in the dirt turning on each other not standing up for each other.. many of your own kin folk I and many others including taeron Julia and others have saved are alive and well to this day when they would have been executed or tortured..

pride is great in small doses honor is a great thing as well.. so take pride in your town and honor it not just the figure head you elect or the puppet controlled by some force not her own.. but the town it self in its entirety that is what you should honor and take pride in..

you as a people have come together and become a town of free men and women when few others have done so.. and after being ruled by the zhents you all should be able to tell when something is wrong and needs be done.. and not allow yourselves to fall victim again to an official elected or not who demands you to swear fealty to them..

I made a vow to my first wife as she died in my arms and the zhentarium ushered the drow off to safety. I swore to see this town freed from them and I have full filled this vow..

I may still help you all from time to time but I expect you to show me and prove to me it isn't a waste of time.. As I have been seeing lately there has been a whole lot of bickering bitching griping finger pointing lately and only a few trying to solve anything.. you have two fine deputy mayors running them selves ragged trying to do what is best for you and yet you complain more..

I remember this town being a proud self assured helpful bunch and now I look at it and am saddened amoungst many other things at what I see.. you people are broken your will is gone.. like it or not this is what is seen and you are considered weak because of it..

so stand the hell up dig deep down and find that spark of life with in your self nourish it feed it and turn it into a power that your enemies will fear.. regain your confidence find your will once again.. take control of your own lives and look to better the town..

you are a close nit town use that rely on each other help each other don't bury your heads in the dirt and allow yourselves to be taken over with out a fight..

call for new elections if needs be.. I ask you only do whats right for you and your town..

so I ask you again search deep with in your selves for what you feel is right.. and act on that..

I going to take my leave of you all now and let you choose your own fate think it through slowly think wisely and then choose..

I may be saddened by what I see but I still hold hope that you all will find your way and continue to stand for what is truly right in your hearts.. you have allies use them trust them seek advice.. use your local churches towers and people use your resources..

I look forward to seeing a proud people with good hearts once again when I next visit.. it wont be and easy path but you are hard working people so build on it..

and with those words he makes his way out of the crowd and exits town once again but he looks back one last time almost as if he doesn't know if this will be the last time or not he visits the place he once called home as well..

PostSubject: Re: The siege of the Twisted Tower   Tue Mar 04, 2014 10:28 am

After a while of the back and forth talking the crowd of people begin to quite in the back and step to the side as Glamerie and six men make thier way to the front. She stands behind the guards and turns to the crowd. (those using True Seeing spells only see Glamerie nothing odd or unsual about her)

"Citizan's of Shadowdale. I brought with me your Elders, those who have lived here the longest and have the wisdom you value. While it's true everyone has thier own voice you have long valued those words spoken by them." she gestures to the six men.

"Today is an important day and I wanted them here as well as everyone to remember this day. For today we decide our own Future. It is true that in the beginning only a few of you asked me to become Lord. I was unsure if I should take on the role. Our town was in shambles, the Zhents had just beed driven out, and like many of you I had suffered greatly. But I took on the mantle of Leadership. Over time the Elders confirmed my Role and I have servered you all to the best of my abilities."

She turns to Taeron and Karovir "But old habits and fears die hard. These men often speak of the great deeds they have done for us, but they did not suffer as we did under the tyrnnay of Zhent rule. They talk of how thier actions were selfless and they seek no glory, yet never miss a chance to remind us of it. Some of thier friends disrespect people for not being 'True Rebels!'" her voice raises at the title "yet they were not here with us while children starved in the street. They are warriors and soilders who's hands are coated in so much blood to never be clean. When a problem arrises they see violence and confrontation as the only solution. These 'True Rebels' hound the citizans and demand special attension for their 'selfless' acts when they don't get thier way."

She turns back to the crowd "They offer promisses of help but at the cost of our right to chose how to use it. So now you have a choice. You can choice them" she waves back to Taeron and Karovir " and a future where our children will be bathed in blood or you can continue to believe in me and your Elders."

When she finished she steps forward past the guards and stands before Taeron and Karovir. "Gentlemen, I choose to defy you. I see you as arrogent, prideful men who value your own ego above the plight of your common man. You spread falsehoods of your own piety while demanding praise for your acts. I pity you for your blindness and that you seek enemies when your worst is yourselves."

She speaks up once more "I stand before you Tearon the Barbarian, unarmed and undefended. Show everyone what Honor means to you and strike this old woman down!"

The crowd is hushed behind them.

*Taeron's voice is calm and cold*

The fact that you don't even know my full name speaks louder than any actions.

And the fact that you claim that I have not suffered under the tyranny of the Zhentarim is an outright lie. I lost the woman I loved, held the most loyal friend in my arms when he died here and I have spilled more of my blood than you can imagine, fighting for this town and against the Zhentarim. I was here when your children starved. I escorted many of your friends and relatives to the elven towns, bleeding under drow arrows, shielding them from harm with my own body. And not a single one of them got harmed on the way. Not a single one died.

It is true that my hands are soaked in blood. But they are stained so that yours don't have to be. *he turns to the people of Shadowdale, as he says that*

A wise man once said that it's the duty of the strong to protect the weaker. I follow those words. And while I require no glory, other than the glory in the eyes of my patron, I will be damned before the deeds of the rebels are forgotten. Lanius gave his life to save all of you, yet none of you ever came to his funeral. No flowers were placed on his grave.

*Taeron pauses for a long while, before he turns back to Glamerie*

You say you suffered greatly. I say "why didn't you act then?". When the purple plague struck and hundreds got sick, where was the healing touch of your patron? Where is it now? Or do you claim you still have the blessings of the Earthmother? I doubt such a wise god would grant you her powers. I doubt you could make a flower blossom or a seed to sprout. In fact, I even challenge you to do so.

I care little about how you see me, woman. You shall not judge me when I pass onto the afterlife.

And I do not plan to strike you down. I plan to see what took a hold of your mind and dispel it. And I pray it's not just madness and thirst for power.

You asked me to bow down before you. No man with honor would ask another to do such a thing. It tells me you have changed. Whether it's natural or unnatural is yet to be seen.

*Teron then turns to those gathered around them*

People of Shadowdale! I ask you to look at this woman. Look into her eyes and try to find the love, patience and compassion you saw in her in the past.

Then look around you. Look at the allies who helped free your town. Where are they now? The dwarves have all but left the city, the elves are uneasy and keep their distance. The rebels mostly displaced... Something changed, and I am sure you feel it too. This is not the same Glamerie. She needs your help. But not the help of an army. She needs the help of a healer.

They may have their pride, but that's not what's important in this scenario.

Mylanis, the druidess which is also somewhat known by the citizens, steps out from the crowd to stand near Tearon. Mylanis as usual is covered in some wards, including both Owls insight and True Sight

The matter at hand is, that we currently have seen no evidence of fair rule on your part, while you may have helped some, others are still sufferings, and even when people continuously point it out to you and your staff, we're continuously ignored, and brushed aside.

One by one, you've pushed away the people who chose to sacrifice their own safety, both to secure yours, and to secure that of the towns. You've angered many of the people who helped you, all of this because your own pride doesn't allow you to see the reason, or at least discuss it with them. We have only chosen to fight with physical means, cause you deny us the chance of fighting with words and reason, brushing our opinions aside like you're the high mistress of right. Which you most certainly aren't, none of us are. We discuss so that we may come to a solution together, and in harmony find the solution which brings prosperity to the world around us, yet you shut all of us out, and make rule over us. I for one don't quite understand how you're blind enough to not see the faults of your chosen way of leadership.

I don't normally care about the politics of a town, but even from the outside, I'm having a hard time seeing if we actually freed the town from one dictatorship, or gave it to another, even if less evil, there's still far to much neglect from the current leadership. the deputies have done a fine job indeed, but their leadership is also very limited, compared to you.

Your challenge more stupid and moronic than I'd expect, and shows how little you actually know of those who chose to free this town you now govern over. The first thing Taeron said is that he didn't want to do this, and that he'd see you unharmed if at all possible, but clearly he can see, just as well as I, that something is amiss here. You have insulted a great deal of the people who risked their lives in helping you, and every villager of this town.

And don't go tell me I didn't suffer, my husband was once locked in a cell chained and tortured, I was locked in a cell at the same time you were. When I led the circle my friends were hunted, and even seriously injured, yet we still stood strong, helped with food when Shadowdale was short, allowed many misdeeds to nature, because we saw the suffering of the town. We healed the land when the plague struck, we did our best to provide food when the Earthmothers favor left the town. We worked our hands to the bone and bled for this town.

Taeron is right, I do not see the same harvest mistress I did when I first came to the dales, I can't say if it was the zhentarim that broke your mind, or if it's something within that tower. But in either case, you need a healer, or you need a very serious amount of meditation to find your roots once more priestess, if you can even call yourself that anymore.

Cruven listens to the back and forth arguments before giving his two cents.

"Mate, folk change, folk need ta get strict an tough hides ta be leaders. Seems like the mayor's learned ta stand up fer herself if'n ya ask me. Ya poke the boss the wrong way yer gunna get fired, tha' how jobs work."

As he talks he snuffs out the tiny stump of what was a cigar and drops it to the cobblestones.

Karovir listens to Glamerie and when the time comes he uses it to say something: "Your speech right now shows how corrupted you are. I am not talking about my great deeds. I only mentioned what qualifies me to judge your current state. Your words are full of poison and not the words of a wise priestess and leader. Yes, you were here and endured the Zhentarim. That is what you did. You endured them. Nothing more. This town would still be ruled by the Zhentarim if there were not those who fought. You also don't remember it apparently but all of us were here helping the farmers until we got banished and even then we found ways to help the people. Now you come here and stand in front of us spreading lies without even blushing. You speak in the same way you did when you insulted me and Myth Drannor in your letters for no reason. This town needs a leader who makes allies and not enemies. This way you will only bring harm to this city and I hope all who are gathered here will see this." Karovir watches the situation while his right hand reaches for his sword ready to draw it if necessary.
