PostSubject: A New Sickness   A New Sickness EmptySun Dec 02, 2012 2:06 pm

Though out the land, some new kind of illness seems to be sweeping the wild, causing sickly critters to appear here and there and clearly these poor innocent animals seem to be in a lot of pain.

The afflicted animals seems to have their joints and tongues swelling, large boils and furless patchs bleed a sickly yellowish pink puss.

What do you do?

Novice Jeanne Auranna looks at one of the animals with a cloth over her face, being careful not to touch it. She attempts to discern if this animal has been plagued with any sort of magical curses or sicknesses of any kind. (Spellcraft 25)

At first Frost is cautious of how he should deal with this situation frowning some what at first , then after several moments clearly he reaches a decision. Using first whats locally available starts gathering up herbs and plants found in the wild that have medicinal uses [1d20+ Survival(27)] and pulls aside first a creature that is known to feast primarily on plants life (I.E deer or Rabbit). One seeming the worst off calming only .Not using magic to cure anything before he begins his examination [1d20+heal(26)]. Comparing it to current known illnesses and afflictions in the wild and the general populace. Sticking to trying to find a "base" though as a precaution preforms "Detect magic" [1d20+Spell craft(18)]to ensure its not at this point magical in nature. After this would find A hunter suck as a Big game Cat Or Wolf repeating the process. Depending on the results he would begin to make use of natural herbs and remedies.

[Note Frost is a Druid]

Audrey takes one of the sick animals to the temple dungeon and conducts examinations, then kills the animal and does a necropsy upon it, using mundane and divine methods. Her goal is to determine the kind of illness and if it can be contagious to humanoids. (heal skill 30)

@ Liandanna

It seems to be a normal purely natural sickness, from what you can tell, there are no strange magics involed at all.

@ sleepybotmonster

As you wonder though looking at herbs you can not help but ntoice, that there is nothing strange in the area around shadowdale, no new herb, no random dead bodys in pools of water, it was rather odd. you do manage to find a few rare herbs however in your search one that if mixed with the right ingredients will make a very very very good beer. your study of the animal reveals its a normal naturally accuring illness, or at least appears to be.

@ Pentralia

You investigations reveal all of the above as well as that the strain of sickness does not seem to be targeting humaniods, something your test subject is likely very glad about if you used one. it is however very very aggressive towards other animals, and seems to be contracted by contact and disturbing... close proxcimity via the puss it gives off..

what do you do next?

If any of these ill creatures near Lorik, he'd simply thrust his spear through the skull and kick the corpse off to the side with a grumbling murmur "Filthy..."

"Right" He says this quietly to himself then looks towards the animals , as if debating what to do next. He checks himself over for symptoms he has seen on the animals . He reaches over tracing a mark on the rabbit and the cat to identify them in the near future to see how long they last task his wolf to keep track of the rabbit during his day. After that he makes his way deeper into the wilds , wandering around attempting to see where the plague hasn't spread to.

Within the company of Slave Ellard and Blake, Audrey has Lorik take the remaining bones to the temple, as well as a water sample from the river in Northern Shadowdale and blood from the remains for further testing. She then goes with Blake to inspect the remaining crops, that have not yet been harvested, to check for any abnormalities.

*Back at the Temple*
Audrey inspects the bones for any odd teeth marks, then uses her divine powers (spellcraft 24) to examine the water and blood taken from the dead deer.

Audrey also moves along the farmlands, examining the livestock to see if they have become infected.

@ sleepybotmonster

You find nothing truely odd, although at one of the pools of water you notice a strange amount of animal tracks around the water, more than would nornally come to drink, something attracted them? there was also a very... very.. faint scent of blood in the air.. but the pool of water looked clean, fresh and inviting.

@ Pentralia

As soon as you use you divine powers on the remains... the bones crack and leaks yellow pink puss, the bloody water grows yellowish pink vains and seems to grow mold.. a foul sink fills your work area.. and later on that day.. remorts of the rats and mice in the temple are all got it now.

as you wonder the farms, oddly.. most of the farm animals seem to be un effected. the farmers seemed to have picked out any sickly looking ones, killed and burned them a few days ago, after all they have delt with plauges before and know what to do now!

@ Pathkiller

The divine magic... seems to rapidly incress the agressivness of the sickness, the animal pretty much exploding into sicking puss, flesh blood and gore showing the area with its.. unpleasentness..

I cull one of the sick beasts and pull out my dagger and remove the skin, organs and check the interior of the animal for anything that seems out of place.

\\my stats are above, let me know if you need more.

After checking out the insides, apart from sicking and having yellow puss in the stoamch and bladder, everything seems normal.

Slowly he makes his way towards the pool keeping watch , at this point something didn't add up. As he nears the water he leans down sniffing at it then looks around once more trying to see if anything is out of place though seems focused on the scent of blood that he picks up for a rare moment he debates taking on his animal form then decides against it. Against his better judgement he test the waters depths with his hand looking to see how deep it goes.

The water smells faintly of blood, the depth is not very deep, apart from that the small pool of water does not seem to... wait.. there are no fishing swimming in it...

After seeing how divine energy affects the remains, Audrey sends a slave to fetch her a live rat that is now ill and running around the temple. She secures it to her examination table and mutters an ugly sounding prayer of Inflict Serious Wounds upon it to see what affects negative energy will have upon the illness.

*Mary, on one of his patrols finds a sickly animal, and after hearing some of the rumors tries the one test he always performs when there is something strange happening in Shadowdale: drips a few drops of holy water on the sickly creature*

If Grimfang gets to the pool of water that the sick animals are drinking from he summons a Elder Water elemental to drain the water from the pond. Then he begins looking through the water swirling in the elemental and exploring the pond bottom
