In yet another recent attack, three adventurers were attacked within the temples in the Overgrowth. One of the three, an elf, managed to escape and call for aid. The other two were not as fortunate, and were butchered and mutilated within the summoning chamber. A parchment, hastily written in blood soaked ink speaks of a warning to any who would "defile his grounds".

Hissing laughter echoes as two figures dash away from the scene into the surrounding jungles.

The attacks continue; the corpses of Ignotius Vichard and Thavian Rowen are hung by the neck near the edge of the Overgrowth, by the path leading to the temple.

Etched in blood, though likely faded by the humid air in the jungle, the words "FILTHY SCALELESS" on the bark of the tree they hang from.

A stones throw away from Shadowdale's eastern fringe, a large male corpse is hung up on a tree by a vine coiled around his neck, and a female left on the ground for dead. On closer inspection the male and female can be identified as Cobannon Migantes and Helen Redman, the former burnt heavily and barely recognizable, the tang of acid emnating from him, the latter her throat slit, a clean kill, her cloth mask discarded.

Cobannon hangs with his jaw agape, lifeless to all that see him. He had been cut open after death, and bandaged again. Behind the bandages, hidden inside Cobannon, is a coiled viper, agitated and ready to strike.

In the very same spot, a mere hour after the previous two were hung up and discovered, three more corpses were tied to the tree using magically conjured vines. Ignited by the components from a fire trap kit, the tree was set alight, a burning beacon shining its warning through the still of the night. In the chaos of smoke and fire, the three bodies can be identified as Ikiryo Tanaimutsu, Donath Wolfbayne, and Rikus Craulnober.

The first had been stabbed in the back, and has the telltale wounds of a shrapnel blast, although no pieces of metal can be found. The second had been delivered a failed coup de grace by shortswords, and a more successful one by a powerful spear. The third is mauled by acid, barely recognizable between the hunger of the fire and the hunger of the acid.

A note is left near the corpses, on a parchment etched in blood, pinned to a tree.

"FILTHY SCALELESS ONES.

DO NOT VENTURE INTO SACRED GROUNDS.

THE WARNING IS GIVEN, THOSE THAT DO NOT HEED WILL BE FED TO THE HATCHLINGS."

*under the four burned bodies bumping and swinging sluggishly in the breeze through the charred tree's branches, limp black robes lie aruond the slight figure of Sergeant's servant. A cut throat leaves a lot of blood and the robes are stiffened with it; so is once-white hair that lies coiled under her dark features and about them.

Over the body the remains of the Templar's cloak move as his body bumps and swings sluggishly in the breeze.

Many must pass this route; perhaps many will be quietly relieved*

A man passing through the region would come across the scene with a raised eyebrow... upon a second glance he would notice the familiar robes. Glancing above he would spot the swinging figure of the Templar and shrug unconcerned... With a frown; the frail man would seek to gather what he could of the womans belongings, and carry her remains back towards civilization...

The journey would be exhausting; and the man would have to make several stops through the Overgrowth. Eventually, should he pass through unmolested, he would bring the womans remains to the Priestess at the House of Plenty.

*in the House, perhaps her spirit can be recalled.

Indeed it was, the Harvestmistress bringing her back, the Magister watching through his spectacles as she stirred, came to. It is a disorientating thing, to travel beyond the gates of death and then to be recalled and it'll take her a few days for her spirit to feel at home again

She was very grateful to the Magister though*

Another pair of humanoids can be found hanging by their necks from a thick tree branch on the edge of the Overgrowth. These two have something distinctly different about them, however, than the usual victims: their skin bears scales, marking them as Yuan-ti blooded. Retaliation to the attacks that have been occurring? More likely mocking. One body is charred, the other riddled with arrow holes, and seems to have been partially skinned... either by a rather peculiar type of knife, or perhaps thick, sharp claws.

((Mad props to Shell and Nharos, very good sports. ^^))
